611 - FEATURE: Auto Response

Auto Response
Auto Response enables E-Prime 2.0 to automatically provide a response to any objects which require the subject to make a keyboard response. This feature is useful when testing an experiment, because E-Prime will automatically provide a response whenever one is required. For example, if your experiment specifies multiple image files to be presented, you can easily test to ensure that all of the image files can be located and loaded by using Auto Response to quickly run through every trial.
Testing an experiment with Auto Response involves two steps: enabling the keyboard to use Auto Response and running the experiment in Test mode. These steps are described below.
Configure the KeyboardDevice to utilize Auto Response
1) Open the Experiment Properties dialog box by double-clicking on the Experiment object in the Structure window.
2) Select the Devices tab.
3) Select the Keyboard Device.
4) If necessary, then enable the keyboard device by clicking on the check box next to the Keyboard
name.
5) Select the ‘Edit…’ box. The Edit Keyboard properties box appears:
6) Select the Auto Response tab. The Auto Response dialog box appears:

7) Select the Auto Response tab. The Auto Response dialog box appears. Modify the default settings
as required.
a. Availability
By default, Auto Response is available for input masks, e.g. E-Prime will automatically generate a keyboard response for all display objects which specify an InputMask , whenever Auto Response is enabled in the Experiment Object. There are two ways to enable Auto Response: by running the experiment in Test Mode (described below), or by enabling this feature in E-Basic script. To do the latter, enter the following on an InLine object:
Rte.AutoResponseEnabled = True
b. Response Window
By default, AutoResponse will generate a response within 25% to 75% of the respnose time limit, assuming that a limit is specified. One or both of these values can be modified. If the time limit on the display object is infinite, or if the display object is at the end of the proceudre, then the time limit is treated as being 0 ms. This value may be changed as well.
c. Probability
By default, Auto Response will attempt to maintain a correct response rate of 80%. This value may be changed.
d. Choices
By default, there are no Allowable values specified in the Choices box to handle cases when the allowed responses as {ANY}. To restrict the values from which Auto Response will generate a response , specify one or more values in this field.
Run the experiment in Test Mode
1) Select Test from the E-Run menu to run the experiment in test mode.

The E-Run Test Mode dialog box appears. By default, the Clock Scale is set to 1x speed. Click on a different radio button in the Clock Scale section to speed up the clock, which will reduce the elapsed time that it takes to run the experiment in test mode.

2) Check the “Auto Response” check box.
3) Disable the Experiment Advisor Report if desired.
By default, the Enable Experiment Advisor Report option is checked. Un-check this box to disable the
automatic creation of an Experiment Advisor Report for the E-Run Test session.
4) Click “Test” to run the experiment in Test mode. The experiment will launch in test mode. E-Prime will
automatically generate a response to all display objects that enable a keyboard response, and Clock
Scale that was selected will be applied.

Very welcome feature, I look forward to trying it!

Any chance you will extend this to other input devices, e.g., Mouse or SRBox?

Thanks.

The internals are setup to consider this for future usage, but was not implemented mainly because under the timeframe wanted to get some user input on how a mouse would work (buttons, quadrants, etc).
