Tobii Glasses Overview

Mobile eye tracker for real-world research

Tobii Glasses are a new, unobtrusive and efficient mobile eye tracker for capturing natural behavior in both qualitative and quantitative real-world research. The Tobii Glasses system includes a pair of Eye Tracking Glasses, a Recording Assistant and, optionally, infrared (IR) markers for automated generation of aggregated data from several test subjects.

The discreet, ultra-lightweight design ensures natural behavior and research validity. Accurate data and robust tracking capabilities can be relied on in uncontrolled situations and real-world environments. Automated data mapping and aggregation (requiring IR markers), along with system-guided procedures, promote process efficiency.

Field of use

The Tobii Glasses Eye Tracker is suitable for use in areas such as:

  • In-store shopper research: for example, in studies of package design, shelf placement, pop promotion, and store planning
  • Out-of-home and TV advertising
  • Social interaction research and group dynamics
  • Sports research
  • Driving/vehicle research
  • Usability research: for example, in studies of signage and control panels
  • Training and evaluation
  • Security applications

Tobii Glasses enable studies to be conducted in real-world environments, such as stores, and subjects to interact freely with physical objects or other people. Their unobtrusive design ensures natural behavior and research validity.

The Tobii Glasses Eye Tracker is available for purchase or rental.

Tobii Glasses Features

Ease of use and automation

  • No need to adjust hardware, cameras or mirrors before starting. Increases efficiency
  • System-guided calibration takes less than one minute. It can be undertaken before or after recording
  • In quantitative research, robust IR-based AOA-Track™ technology accurately and objectively maps eye tracking data to real-world objects. Automated data aggregation significantly lowers the need for manual coding and leads directly to statistical analysis
  • Full compatibility with Tobii Studio™ analysis software gives instant access to comprehensive visualization and statistics tools, and offers continuous automated data handling with no elements of subjectivity.

The system-guided procedures, along with automated data mapping and aggregation, promote process efficiency.

Unobtrusive design and technology

  • The discreet, ultra-lightweight design of the Glasses and the Recording Assistant make the system unobtrusive
  • There are no distracting cameras or mirrors, and test subjects are free from carrying bulky and heavy recording equipment.

The discreet, ultra-lightweight design ensures natural behavior and research validity.

Accurate and reliable

  • Tobii Glasses provide accurate gaze data in a real-world environment. Fixed geometry eliminates the need to adjust hardware, cameras or mirrors and there is no risk that the geometry changes during sessions. This, in combination with system-guided calibration, minimizes the risk of human error
  • Parallax compensation maintains accuracy over different viewing distances as test subjects move around
  • Robust tracking capabilities can be relied on in uncontrolled situations and a real-world environment
  • Millisecond synchronization of eye-tracking data, AOA-Track data mapping, and scene video
  • The Recording Assistant records eye tracking data, sound, video, AOA snapshots, and the position of the IR markers. It also shows eye tracking quality and battery life.

The accurate data produces reliable research results. Robust tracking capabilities allow you to track a wide range of the population.
