While you cannot open .edat2 files with excel or SPSS directly, you can export the files to either Excel or SPSS using E-Data Aid. However, if you are in a situation where you do not have access to E-Data Aid and still need to access your data files, you still have options. Along with every .edat2 file created there is a .txt file with the same name as the .edat2 file. This is a tab delimited text file that contains the same data the .edat2 file, just in a less aesthetically pleasing format. I know excel allows you to open these .txt files and view your data, I have not tried with SPSS. I hope this information helps!
