Dear fellow users, I do kindly appreciate any help I can get. I ve tried the PST support more than a week ago and they have not responded. I really hope the more experienced users here can lend me a hand. I have attached my incomplete attempt at my experiment so far. Right now, I am trying to design a lexical decision experiment whereby participants decide between words and nonwords and in addition, are supposed to remember to press a specific key at particular moments through the experiment (i.e., press the F1 key on the 4th, 8th and 12th minute). In order to check how long into the experiment they are, they can press the “1” key for a clock display. Ideally, I want to be able to log when and how many times they press the “1” key. Please refer to the problems below that I am facing. Once again, thank you so much for your help. Would treat you to a cup of coffee if I could.
Problem 1. Pressing the “1” key doesn’t lead to an immediate display of the elapsed time. When I run the experiment, the clock only displays in the next trial when the “1” key is pressed. I want to be able to display the clock immediately when “1” is pressed for exactly 1000ms
Problem 2. I am trying to make each trial fixed at 4000 ms (Fixation of 1000 ms + Stimulus Display of 3000 ms). If my participant responds to the stimulus display at 1200 ms, then I want to be able to able to add the remaining 1800 ms to a blank screen which they will see immediately after responding to the stimulus display. If my participant doesn’t respond to the stimulus display at all (meaning the stimulus display appeared for its entirety of 3000ms), then I don’t want the blank screen to appear since each trial should be 4000ms.
Problem 3. I want participants to be able to do the lexical decision task and press for the clock display at the same time without one response affecting the other. Using the slide object, it seems like doing one task affects the presentation duration of the other task. For example, if I were to do the lexical decision task (by pressing the yes or no key on the keyboard which will be assigned to the d and k key), then I cant press the “1” key to see the clock because when I press the 1 key, the lexical decision trial is terminated. I want to be able to press the “1” key to get a display with it affecting the lexical decision trial and I also want to be able to do the lexical decision task without it affecting my clock display duration. Regards
