I'm learning to design a lexical decision experiment with E-prime 2.0. I just came across the problem that the .txt file was generated but the .edat file was not. I didn't abort the experiment or receive any error message. After several tests, I found that the reason for the failure is due to the startup information of subject I entered at the beginning of the experiment. When I entered "000" for the "subject", only the .txt file was generated; but when I entered "1" or "001", both the .txt and .edat was created. (p.s. In the "Startup Info" for "Subject", I set the "Default: 000", "Min: 0", "Max: 32767"). I don't know why. If anyone knows, please tell me. Thanks.

Well.... that would be one of the features of E-prime. You're actually informed about this every time you run an experiment. In the box where you enter your subject number it reads: "Please enter the Subject Number (1-32767, 0= No Data Logging)"

I was having the same problem with the error message "variable name is same as level name". In my big list object, I had my procedures named BlockProc1, BlockProc2, etc. Then in that same list I had an attribute named "Block" and under that I listed Block1, Block2. It turns out, that very unnecessary attribute was the problem. It took it out and it started recording fine.
