Hello,

I'm making a event related stimuli presentation in e-prime. Since I don't know how to set aleatory null condition durations, I put all my stimuli in one block and defined one by one their names and durations... Like described in some other topics, I got also a runtime error message -- An error occurred while attempting to load the movie. Marker: 227. Error: -2147220968 (0x80040218) Line: 1028. Error number: 11053

Since the error was happening when loading the fifteenth movie clip, I don't think it's a decoder problem but I still installed the ffdshow and settled the decoder configuration as shown in a topic of this forum. I still got the error message unless the error was happening when loading the fourteenth movie clip...

I read similar reports here concerning runtime error which could be related to the e-prime version. The mine is E-prime 2.0 Release candidate (2.0.8.22). I converted the original AVI movies into MPG1, MPG2 and MP4. However, these converted MP4 files were not supported by the windows meida player of our newly bought laptop. MPG1 can be played by winDVD but not WMP while MPG2 worked well in WMP. But I didn't succeed in playing any of these files in e-prime with this time error message as "unable to buffer movie, too many retries. Line: 748. Error number: -999". However, mpg movies worked well in e-prime in another study of our lab.

I tried also placing an Inline object as Brandon has suggested for others:
c.SetAttrib "Movie.LoadFactor", x
c.SetAttrib "Sound.LoadFactor", x
(For the value of x, I tried 90, 80, 70 then 9, 8, 1) But nothing changed.

So, I really confused, not knowing how to resolve this problem. Why it happened at the fifteenth or the fourteenth? Maybe it's a overflow of background operation (Sorry, I even don't know what I say, I'm a newcomer)... But it's really possible because I tried just now to replace the fourteenth movie by a sample MovieRT which is five times smaller than our experimental movie (whose size is from 3 mb to 6 mb, for exemple, the size of the fourteenth movie is nearly 5 mb) and this time the fourteenth movie (the MovieRT) worked well and it was the fifteenth movie that didn't work... So how can I tell the e-prime file not to keep in memory all the past movies if it's really a so-called overflow?

PS: All my movies have an one-second length and don't have sound. The null conditions' duration varied effectively from 2 seconds to 8 seconds.

I apologize for the long description of my problem and all suggestions will be appreciated.

Pierre

sorry, just to correct a wrong sentence on paragraph 2:

I still got the error message unless the error was happening when loading the fourteenth movie clip... (unless should be except)

1) No need to apologize about the length response, the more detail the better and you provided enough so that we end up with one detailed thread instead of "how about this", "how about that" to get some specs together.

2) Are you loading these movies with fixed filenames?  What happens if you load this with [attrib] references for the names?

3) You mentioned the 15+ movies on a Procedure/Trial.  Are all supposed to play?  Or is there some condition that plays certain ones?

4) There is certainly not intended to be a limit to how many movie objects can be on a trial at one time.  However, depending on the design do you see a method in which you could have a temp list that fed a sub trial that played just one movie?  I'd need more info on your design first.

5) Any info on machine specs?  Specifically single/dual/quad core?
