Hi All,

Our lab is preparing to purchase new sound cards for the Dell PCs we use to run subjects.
One model we are considering is Creative Labs E-MU 0202 USB 2.0. Is anyone currently using this model to run sound stimuli in E-Prime experiments? If so, what has your experience been with sound quality? Are there any issues with start-up latency? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Although PST has not specifically tried that specific sound adapter, the USB sound adapter we did try did not have ideal results.  Depending on the brand, you might be better off with a sound adpater that is part of the motherboard or a PCMCIA add on.

Please note that although USB sound adapter tests does not provide ideal results does not mean that the USB technology is bad.  USB has a wide range of speeds and protocols that can achieve millisecond performance.  Most device manufactures are not concerned with the level of precision that is usually called for in experiments.

Please see http://www.pstnet.com/products/e-prime/timing for more info.
